High Tunnels vs Fields as Growing Environments: Garlic Most varieties exhibited greater survival in the high tunnels over the 2001-2002 period (see A in the figure below).
The following table demonstrates that all varieties except Large Pink had greater average bulb weights within compost mulch in the high tunnels than in the field:
Section B of the figure above demonstrates that most varieties had greater average bulb weights within the compost mulch treatment. Section C of the above figure suggests that there is little if any correlation between clove weight and bulb weight. The figure below presents foliar nutrient results of compost vs straw treatments:
With the exception of nitrogen levels (lower in straw), there were no significant differences between straw and compost as mulch treatments insofar as nutrient levels are concerned. |
